On & Off the needles: a tank top and some frogging!
I've been fairly productive this week, so I'm excited to chat about my progress! First, remember the tank top that I started last week? I was very excited about it... I used cotton yarn that I reclaimed from a thrift store sweater, and the last tank top that I made from the same yarn turned out wonderfully. Plus, the pattern was a free [...]
Why yarn labels can be deceptive…
Let's say that you're in the yarn shop, looking for a yarn. The gauge of your pattern is 5 stitches to the inch. You see these two labels (pictured below). You may be inclined to think that the first yarn is perfect (because the gauge is exactly what your pattern says), and the second yarn is the wrong yarn... ...and, you'd be wrong. [...]
On & off the needles: baby dress and a new tank top!
I've decided to move my 'on & off the needles' post (usually on Thursdays) to Wednesdays, so that I'm in line with other bloggers doing 'work in progress Wednesdays'... same exciting content, new day! First, let's start with what's off the needles... I had a productive week! I finished Amelia's dress, an adorable pattern by Debbie Bliss. I knit [...]
On the needles: Kureyon cowl!
I haven't been doing too much knitting recently (I've become semi-obsessed with a redesign of my website... but I hope to finish that this weekend!), but I started a new project that's really awesome. First, though... I've been making steady progress on Amelia's dress. I knit 3" of it on the bus to Boston with my eyes closed (because I get [...]
On the needles & off the hook!
The first week of August (as I just learned) is vacation-time in Connecticut... my local yarn store is closed and my yoga studio is closed, so I've been on a little bit of a vacation. This week, I decided to take a break from working on my next book, and work on a couple of other things. As a result, I have a couple adorable little critters to [...]
On & off the needles: a sweater and a baby dress!
It's Thursday, hooray! Another weekly update about what I've been knitting! Last weekend, I finished the Eastlake sweater by Norah Gaughan. It's a really beautiful pattern, and I loved knitting it. The leaf design up the front of the sweater is really cute, and everyone who's seen it has been in love with it. Yay! You can click here to see [...]
Locker Hooking disaster… with new opportunity!
Do you remember the rainbow-colored locker hooked bath mat that I made? It was beautiful, it was comfortable, it was practical... ... it was, unfortunately, not machine washable. It was a bit silly of me, but I didn't give tossing it into the machine a second thought- since the fabric I used was 100% cotton, I knew it would be alright. I [...]

On the needles: Eastlake and a cabled scarf
I haven't gotten anything 'off the needles' this week, but I've made progress! I've almost completed the Eastlake sweater by Norah Gaughan that I started last week. I've done all of the main pieces and seamed them together, and all I need to do is knit a few rows around the neckline and block! The yarn (Ultra Alpaca) is wonderful to work [...]
Intermittent internet service…
Most weeks, I write a blog post every weekday... and you may have noticed that I've been skipping a couple posts a week for the past two weeks... it's not because I'm on vacation, it's because I've been having a heck of a time with my internet service! My difficulties with my internet are far from interesting, so I won't bore you with details. [...]
