A snowed-in weekend

P1250014

Just a few days ago, I wrote a post about my snow day, and it looks like we’re about to get significantly more snow! It’s snowing as I write (the photo above is what it looks like outside of my window at current), and it’s predicted that the DC area will get about 2 feet of snow! Geesh! Since I haven’t done a Designer’s Week post since the holidays… I’m going to do a little combo ‘designer’s weekend’ and ‘snow day’ post. So, what’s going on this weekend?

  • Work at A Tangled Skein

I had been scheduled to work a shift tomorrow at A Tangled Skein, but due to the threat of severe snow, the store will be closed. (Okay, if you’re not from the DC area, you may be screaming, “closed? For snow?” But yes, that’s how we roll. Schools were closed today (Friday) before the snow even actually started. It’s a stereotype about us mid-Atlantic folks that’s really true… feel free to glance at a DC area online newspaper to read about the immense panic triggered by snowflakes.) So, I have a Saturday that I didn’t think I’d have!
  • Prepare for my class

I’m teaching a class about knitting two socks at a time on two circulars, and it starts this Tuesday. (In case you’re curious, I strongly recommend Knitting Circles around Socks as a reference.) So, this weekend, I’ll get started on knitting a pair of socks, as a sample for the class.
  • Design some Amigurumi

My days are filled with designing lots of amigurumi, as I publish three new patterns a month. However, at current, I’ve been designing a couple extra patterns a month so that I can be a little bit ahead of schedule. We’re most likely moving this summer, and I’d like to build up a bit of cushion so that I have adequate move-time.
  • Self-sufficiency Crafts

If you’ve read about me, you’ll know that I’m really into making stuff from scratch. This goes beyond knitting and crocheting, and well into sewing and cooking. Today, I made cheese (my first hard cheese! I’m so excited!) and ice cream, and I’ll probably get into making some bread and yogurt this weekend. Being snowed in is a great time for cooking!

And of course, in the gaps, I’ll catch the Super Bowl, read some books and knit for fun. I love snow days!
