Here in the DC area, we’re getting a bit of snow! Whoo hoo! It’s only supposed to be about 2-4 inches… but there is something exciting about snow days. Maybe it’s a holdover from when I was a child and one tiny snowflake meant that you got to stay home from school (if you’re familiar with DC snow stereotypes, you know what I mean. We once had school canceled because it threatened to snow.)

Above, you’ll see a photo of the ground as soon as I woke up. As you can tell, there are only a couple of flakes on the ground at this point. And at left, I took a photo of my handy thermometer that Tim gave me for my birthday. This way, we know how cold it is outside, without actually having to open the door. Very handy!
Anyway, I thought I’d share the exciting things I plan on doing on my snow day.
Knit my cardigan

I’ve been working on the Emma Cardigan by Janine Le Cras. It’s a beautiful short-sleeved, lacy cardigan in lace weight yarn and size 6 needles. I acquired a beautiful skein of Lorna’s Laces, and I really wanted to make something pretty and lacy, but I’m just not a shawl-girl. So, I found this pattern, and I’ve been happily knitting along. I just started the lace patterning at the bottom half of the cardigan. I think I’ll get a fair bit of knitting done on my snow day!
Spin a little?

I’m a spindle spinner (my spindle is a Viking Santa, and it’s wonderful!!!), and I’ve been spinning some lovely roving from Spin Span Spun. It’s the same stuff I was spinning when I posted about my pretty little swatch. I know my spindle is really full… but I only have the tiniest bit of roving to go! I’m spinning about a dk-weight, so it can handle a full spindle. So, maybe I’ll get around to finishing up this spinning project on my snow day!
Indian Buffet
Tim and I have been looking forward to going to our favorite Indian restaurant for their weekend buffet, and then stock up in the adjacent Indian grocery store. And 1 inch of snow isn’t going to stop us!
Puzzle

I got this great jigsaw puzzle for Christmas (it’s a bunch of buttons!), and I fantasize about putting it together, gluing it, and hanging it in my studio (that I might have someday). But right now, I’m just on the assembly stage. I’ve been working on it for about a half hour a day, and it’s a lot of fun. It has slowed down my knitting, though…
Then there are a few things that are too tiny to devote a whole paragraph to… make banana bread, drink Earl Grey tea (with milk and sugar!), read a book, and catch some History Channel on TV. It’s going to be a great snow day!
