FO Friday: a hat and a couple of amigurumi!
Happy Friday! Most of my energy this week has been put into getting ready for the Pittsburgh Knit and Crochet Festival, but I've managed to squeak in a few hours of knitting and crocheting! Amigurumi This week, I crocheted another custom-order owl: And yes, it's different from the one I finished last week, I promise! I used a less-bright color of orange on the feet and beak to match the [...]
Punxsutawney Phil vs. Crochet Phil
If the groundhog sees his shadow, then it's 6 more weeks of winter. If he doesn't, then spring is on its way. Trouble is, which groundhog are you going to believe? Sure, Punxsutawney Phil is famous, but I'm following Crochet Phil! And he predicts that spring is on it's way! (check the photo for evidence... no shadow, there!) Reports from Punxsutawney Phil are mixed this morning... this [...]
WIP Wednesday: Knitting and crocheting and metalsmithing!
Happy Wednesday! I'm in the middle of a few projects, so I'll just get started telling you about them! Pagona Shawl I started a new 'yarn store' project (where I'm knitting, while working at the shop, to show off a new yarn), and it's Pagona by Stephen West. It's from his first book, and it's great because it's a beautiful shawl that uses less than 400 yards (perfect for a skein of sock [...]
Guide to Crocheting Dog Toys
People love their dogs like children... so is it any wonder I get a lot of questions about crocheting dog toys? Above is a photo of a dog toy I was recently commissioned to design and crochet. For the most part, crocheting for a dog is a lot like crocheting for a baby... but there are a few more things to keep in mind. Here are some considerations: Just like for babies, don't use any [...]

Rockin’ something bright on a cold winter day…
Can I show you what I bought yesterday? The perfect accessory to wear on a cold, winter day: It's a felted pin made by Frabjous Fibers (which I bought at my Local Yarn Store). They come in all different colors (turquoise is my fave, though!), and are handmade in Nepal. Isn't it the perfect way to add a bit of spring to winter?
FO Friday: full of crochet animals and hearts!
Happy Friday! I've been a busy-bee this week... so this post is going to be mostly pictures! Capucine I finished knitting Capucine- and I totally recommend the pattern! It's an easy pattern, and really brings out the awesomeness in this skein of Noro that I used! Galah I crocheted an amigurumi galah this week... a little something from Australia! (A galah is a type of cockatoo, but [...]
Are crochet hooks allowed on planes?
This question came up on the FreshStitches Facebook page recently, and I since I have a lot to say on the topic (because I travel oodles), I thought it'd make a good blog post! The short answer- in US and Australia The quick and easy answer is "Yes, crochet hooks are allowed as carry-on items in planes in the US, Australia and lots of other countries". In my personal experience, I've [...]
WIP Wednesday: multi-craftual progress!
Happy Wednesday, everyone! You'll definitely want to check back this Friday... because I have lots of finished objects to show off! Even though I've finished up quite a few things, I've still got a lot that I'm working on: Entrelac Hat I'm knitting an entrelac hat as a sample for a class I'm teaching this Saturday. I've completed the entrelac band... next step is to pick up stitches along [...]
A shortcut for crocheting stuffed animals more quickly!
It's Tip Tuesday! Today, I'm going to share my trick for cutting down on the crochet-time of an adorable stuffed animal! We've all been there before: you have a baby shower/birthday party/event to go to this weekend, you want to crochet an adorable stuffed animal, but you don't have a lot of time. What can you do? You can slash your crocheting time with a combo approach: use a bulky yarn and [...]
