About FreshStitches

The idea for FreshStitches began in 2008 when crochet designer, Stacey Trock, noticed a distinct lack of patterns for big and cuddly stuffed animals. A handful of adorable designs later- FreshStitches was born! Since then, FreshStitches patterns have become legendary for their cuteness, detailed instructions and step-by-step photos. Using the abundance of help and information in the patterns, numerous crocheters have crocheted a FreshStitches animal as their first crochet project! ...more

WIP Wednesday: my mushroom socks!

This week, I’ve cast on for a simple sock, but in a beautiful color!!

The Yarn

I’m using a superwash, fingering weight yarn that I bought from A Verb for Keeping Warm:

What drew me to this yarn is that it was hand dyed with mushrooms! Don’t you love that?

The Needles

I’m a huge fan of my the 9-Inch Circular Needle… so much so that I bought a size 1 circular to add to my collection!

The Pattern

I’m using Churchmouse Yarn’s Basic Sock Pattern, a well-written pattern that contains instructions for both fingering and sport weight socks.

It’s a lovely cuff-down version, which means I can work on the cuff while I’m out and about, without looking at the pattern!

I’m doing a 2×2 rib for the cuff, and I think I’ll keep the rib going down the top of the foot… I like that look!

That’s what I’ve been up to this week! Have you been up to anything exciting? I hope you have an awesome Wednesday, and get some great knitting/crocheting done this week!

Yay! I see you decided what to use your mushroom yarn from Cali for! So cool! I haven’t tried making socks yet, but it’s definitely on my list of things to do this summer. :-D Oh, and my hubs and I found out where we’re moving to next fall…San Antonio! I’m super excited and I’ve heard that some big yarn/craft expos happen there, so I’ll be looking forward to catching those.

Ooh, I knew there was a reason I loved mushrooms! That stuff is beautiful! I’d love to hear how you like working with the teeny tiny circ. I’ve been sorely tempted to try it, but all I’ve heard is complaints from folks who find it too fiddly. Thoughts?

Your sock looks great and I love the fact the yarn was dyed with mushrooms, so cool! I love mushrooms! Can’t wait to see your socks finished!

I keep hearing about A Verb For Keeping Warm. How does the yarn feel? Is it very soft?

That color is just fantastic. There is something about natural plant dyes that is just so perfect. Could you ever see yourself doing your own natural dye experiments?

I’m often tempted to give natural dyeing a whirl… but I think I need to learn more about how dyes work. But then, yeah, I’ll give it a go!
