About FreshStitches

The idea for FreshStitches began in 2008 when crochet designer, Stacey Trock, noticed a distinct lack of patterns for big and cuddly stuffed animals. A handful of adorable designs later- FreshStitches was born! Since then, FreshStitches patterns have become legendary for their cuteness, detailed instructions and step-by-step photos. WIP Wednesday: Darjeeling Socks

The other day, I raved about The Knitter’s Book of Socks… a book by Clara Parkes that contains everything you’d want to know about selecting yarn and patterns for footwear!

I was so excited, I couldn’t help but cast on for a pair!

The Pattern

I’m knitting Darjeeling, a sock design by Cat Bordhi. I’m not the biggest fan of toe-up socks, but the arch expansion that’s in this pattern really intrigued me.

Besides, it also has a pretty interesting toe:

The Yarn

I’m using a skein of Cherry Tree Hill sock yarn that I had in my stash:

(And it was even stored in my Ravelry Stash! If you want to know how to organize your stash on Ravelry, check out this blog post!)

This yarn is a 2-ply machine-washable merino. The sample in the pattern was knit with a S-on-S cabled yarn, which makes the purl stitches really pop on the sock… mine aren’t popping as much, but that’s okay. I’m using stash yarn, and that’s what counts, right?

The Plan

I’m going to get in some knitting time on these guys, this week… because I’m headed down to NYC with my buddy Ellen (which involves a 1.5-2 hour train trip, each way). I don’t think they’ll be done by Friday… but I’ll have something else to show you, then!

That’s what I’ve been up to this week… how about you? Anything exciting? I hope you have an awesome Wednesday, and get some great knitting/crocheting done this week!

If you want to check out more Work-In-Progress posts, please check out Tami’s Ami’s Blog, who’s been organizing a great WIP Wednesday blog theme! And, don’t forget to come back for FO (Finished Object) Friday!

  1. Gorgeous yarn and a very interesting toe. I’ll be interested to hear a review and whether you find it comfortable when worn in a shoe. It’d be quite something to see inside the head of Cat Bordhi – her designs always feature interesting construction, don’t they?

I don’t have that Clara Parkes book but I may have to pick that one up. I have her Knitter’s Book of Yarn and LOVE it, so I think I’d love this one, too. That yarn is gorgeous and is going to make a great sock!

Cherry Tree Hill stands up to a lot of wear and tear. I love my socks made from them.
