Happy Wednesday!
Last week, I had three top-down sweaters on the needles. I’m happy to report that one is finished (and I’ll show you on Friday!).
Something to Ponder
My Something To Ponder, however, fared a sad fate:
I tried it on, and it just wasn’t fitting right… I discovered after I had been knitting a while that my gauge was off by 1/2 stitch/inch (which ends up being a really big deal!). So, off to the frog pond for this one!
Kyuu
My Kyuu is progressing nicely:
It’s also 1/2 stitch off in gauge (what is up with me? I even actually did a gauge swatch this time!), but because this is a wrap-around piece you can wear different ways, I’ve decided that it’ll be alright and to go ahead with it!
Wingspan
I’m knitting a second Wingspan, this time with leftover bits of yarn from my stash. (come back tomorrow to read my Wingspan-knitting tips!). Here’s what it looks like so far:
Curious about why it’s not on a knitting needle? That’s because my Addi broke during sit & stitch last night!
In the grand scheme of things, it’s not a big deal… they come with a lifetime warranty, so I can send it back for a new one. But it derailed my knitting for a bit! Fortunately, I think I have another size 5 somewhere…
That’s what I’ve been up to this week! Have you been up to anything exciting? I hope you have an awesome Wednesday, and get some great knitting/crocheting done this week!

LOVE the colors of your wingspan!
Stacey,
I think the green sweater, “Something to Ponder”, looked really nice. I don’t see too much extra material. Then again, it really depends on how you want the sweater to fit. Looks like this one would drape nicely even if it were a little bigger than the recommended gauge. Hmmm, did you already frog it?
And I love your other sweater and wingspan! So beautiful! :-D
@DeeAnna- I see what you’re saying… it doesn’t look so bad from the photo… but it has like, 5 extra inches, around the bustline. If I move at all, you can see completely down the shirt. I know it’s just not going to work out between me and Something to Ponder.
After many knitting projects gone awry, I’ve learned to not throw good knitting time after bad and keep working on something I won’t be happy with! :)
Oh! I see what you mean. I’m not comfortable in sweaters/shirts that are too open in the front. I like to be able to lean over without flashing the world. ;-) And you’re right, time is too precious to spend on something you’re not happy with. :-D I’ll be looking forward to Friday to see what you finish. I won’t be able to finish my monster this week because I had to order some coordinating yarn. She’s going to have woolie green arms and legs. I contemplated using acrylic, but in the end I just didn’t want to b/c I didn’t think it would look as good as wool, especially since the body was made in wool. I also thought about felting it, but I’m a little scared. I don’t want to mess it up. ;-D xoxo
@DeeAnna… you’ve already stuffed part of your monster, right? Felting doesn’t work so great if there’s already stuffing, because the stuffing gets in the way of the agitation required for the wool. I’m sure it’ll come out great!
GREAT advice, Stacey! :-D I haven’t stuffed her yet. I want to wait until I get her arms and legs sewn on first. But I’m afraid to wash her because I think the parts that are supposed to be open for stuffing will get closed up/ felted together. Does that make sense?
@DeeAnna- that makes total sense, but I don’t think you have to worry unless the openings are really small… I’ve done it with an opening of 12 sts.
Keep in mind that once you felt, you lose your stitch definition, so you’ll have to attach the pieces with a needle and thread (like sewing).
Aww, sorry that lovely green sweater wasn’t turning out right and is getting frog-ponded, but whatever other pattern you find for it will only be improved by such bright, awesome yarn, I’m sure. :)
And I’m loving your Wingspan, those colours are delicious.
Yikes! I thought horrible disasters like that only befell plastic crochet hooks. I like the sound of a lifetime guarantee though.
Perhaps there’s a change in mood? I know my tension goes bonkers when that happens (too loose or too tight).
@Marie-
I suspect what really happened (if I want to be honest with myself) is that I made a tiny gauge swatch, and measured quickly… telling myself it was close enough. And, then, over an entire sweater, that little 1/2 stitch makes a big difference.
I also think the cut of Something to Ponder doesn’t suit my body-type… it has a puffy bodice, and I don’t think I’m fully equipped to fill it out :)
Plus, the cotton doesn’t have any elasticity, which just exacerbates the problem!
Gorgeous colors on your wingspan. The Kyuu is beautiful!
I found you through WIP Wednesdays. Here is my project of the week: http://likemamalikedaughter.blogspot.com/2012/04/how-to-tuesday-bunnys-birthday-dress.html
Oh sorry about the gauge issue – it’s so frustrating after all that work. Love the green, though and it suits you!
@Stacey, Thanks so much for the felting tips!!! I just noticed that you have a couple of felted amigurumi patterns (Gerry & Lil’ Ger), so I may buy those this afternoon and try those before I finish my monster. You ROCK!!!
What a bummer about YSTP but the Wingspan and Kyuu look great already
