About FreshStitches

The idea for FreshStitches began in 2008 when crochet designer, Stacey Trock, noticed a distinct lack of patterns for big and cuddly stuffed animals. A handful of adorable designs later- FreshStitches was born! Since then, FreshStitches patterns have become legendary for their cuteness, detailed instructions and step-by-step photos. How to Change Colors in Single Crochet

How’s your cow (for the FreshStitches CAL) coming along?

You already know that I’m making a rainbow cow… basically, changing to a new color every few rows to get rainbow-y stripes.

Do you want to know how to change colors?

Of course you do!

So, I made this little video of me doing the first color change: (click on the square icon in the lower right corner of the video to view it in full screen)

Not so hard, is it?

And if you keep changing colors every few rounds, you’ll end up with a super-fun, stripey head!

Keep crochetin’ along!

I hope you’re enjoying crocheting along with me… feel free to leave a note in the comments section if you have any questions!

And remember, I’ll be posting cow-crochet tips all month long!

  1. Thanks for sharing… I learnt something today ;)

  2. Pumpkin says:

That is certainly more easy than I imagined it would be. Great video!

  3. Nicole says:

Just out of curiosity- why do you crochet through only one loop rather than both?

    • Stacey says:

      @Nicole-
Crocheting through the back loop gives a less-stiff fabric that doesn’t allow stuffing to show through. I like my stuffed animals nice and squishy :)

  4. Thanks for this. I’ve been crocheting forever, but I’m very self taught and I know the way I do my color switches was completely my own invention and it leaves a bump. I’m going to try this on my next project.
