Store Spotlight: Montgomery Mills

location: On Factory Street in Montgomery, NY. Right off Route 17K.

My Store Spotlight series usually profiles great LYSs with a friendly atmosphere and a beautiful selection of colorful yarn.

Not today. Montgomery Mills has no atmosphere and all of the yarn is white… but it’s a fabulous shop!

Montgomery Mills Yarn

I stumbled across Montgomery Mills as I was driving and saw this sign:

Montgomery Mills

How can you resist that sort of temptation? I turned off the road, and discovered a wonderland of yarn!

All of the yarn is undyed skeins (or ‘blanks’). Silk, cotton, wool, alpaca… you name it, the fiber is here.

I chatted with a fellow designer about my discovery, and she hinted that I may have found the ‘secret supply shop’ of a number of indie dyers. Whoa! Well, the secret’s out!

Montgomery Mills doesn’t have a website, but some sleuthing unearthed a Wikipedia entry about the Mill’s former life. No longer processing fiber or manufacturing textiles, it’s just a fabulous yarn shop!

So, if you happen by Montgomery, NY (which you might be if you go to Rhinebeck!), then definitely have a look at the Montgomery Mills retail shop!

Such a wonderful place, I like the yarn signs aside the road, there’s no yarn signs here at Hawaii. Nice fiber supply shop.

Yes. Henry’s Attic yarns are all drop-shipped from Montgomery Mills. You can look at wool2dye4 and much of her stock is Henry’s/Montgomery Mills yarn.
