One of the most exciting parts of living in Connecticut is that this fine state hosts Stitches East! Yesterday, I popped up to Hartford to have a look around… here are some highlights from my visit!
(and, just in case you’re curious… my outfit of choice included Slithers the Snake, since he was such a hit at Rhinebeck!)
Naturally, Stitches is all about the yarn! I fell in love over and over again, but I’ll share some of my faves!
I met the folks from Stitchuary.com! Stitchuary is a site that brings together yarns from small American farms, and makes it available online… which is fabulous, because not all of us live next to a farm!
I fell in love with this delicious quiviut/merino/silk blend from Windy Valley Muskox… SO soft!
meeting Alasdair Post-Quinn
Alasdair is the undisputed king of double knitting, and I was thrilled to meet him in person!
Just over a year ago, I test-knitted a sample for his book, Extreme Double Knitting. The blanket that I knit (Sierpinski) was proudly on display:
And why shouldn’t it be? It’s an incredible design! Alasdair was signing copies of his new book, and I gleefully snagged a copy (watch this space for a review!).
posing with RhinoFluff!
You probably spied Eling from RhinoFluff on this blog when she came by for Indie Yarnie Week, and I’m such a fan! So, I was thrilled to find out that Eling would be at Stitches, and I brought along my finished Citron Shawl made from her lovely yarn!
Eling had her handspun yarns, as well as her goods from her second shop, Migration Goods. I’m in awe!
knitting with GIANT needles
It’s not every day that you get a chance to knit with GIANT needles:
I got a chance to test-drive these knitting needles from BagSmith… they’re enormous! And, yes, crocheters can get in on the gigantic-ness, too!
That’s a size U crochet hook!
And just having fun!
It was a fantastic time! Are you going to Stitches East this weekend? Or are you a lucky ducky who lives close enough to go to SAFF? Fill me in on your fiber plans!
