Are you tempted by a good (crochet) mystery?

If you read the blog, you’ve been getting some hints… it’s time for the Archer Mystery Crochet-a-Long!

And let me tell you… I am so excited!

I’ve been holding out on doing a mystery CAL until I came up with a truly brilliant idea. Then one day it hit me… a combinations of shapes that are going to have you stumped!

Are you tempted? To play & crochet along with us, you’ll want to buy the buy the Archer Mystery CAL pattern. Have questions? No worries! I’m answering a few FAQs below!

Can I tell you how exciting this is going to be? My hubby, Tim, saw the finished animal… and he exclaimed aloud, “Man, I’m going to have to read their guesses! There’s no way they’ll guess what it is!” How’s that for an endorsement?

How does a Mystery CAL work?

If you’ve never participated in a mystery CAL before, then it might sound a little confusing. But fear not, it’s actually pretty easy!

What are the essentials for how it works? You’ll need to follow a couple steps:

  1. Buy the buy the Archer Mystery CAL pattern ($6)
  2. Get your hook and yarn ready (yardage amounts will be released November 1st)
  3. When a new clue is released, you’ll automatically be emailed/Ravelry messaged about the update. Download the new clue
  4. Come chat/gossip/speculate with us in the FreshStitches Ravelry Group
  5. Crochet the pieces, following the pattern in the clue
  6. Repeat steps 3-6 for each clue!

That’s not so scary, is it?

When will the clues be released? On Thursdays, beginning November 15th. Here’s the schedule:

Notice that if you crochet along with us, then you’ll finish in time to have a cuddly holiday present!

Is there a badge that I can put on my Ravelry project page? Of course there is!

Right click the image above, and choose ‘Save As’ to save the image to your computer for uploading.

Will I get the finished pattern once the CAL is over? Sure thing! Once all of the clues are released, you will receive a final update with the pattern in ‘normal’ format.

What will we be crocheting?

We will be crocheting a new pattern (not previously published or photographed) that is a ‘normal’ stuffed animal. That is, it’s a real animal and not a monster or alien.

Is the animal a girly animal? No. This animal is gender-neutral, and would be a fun present for any little one. I’ve crocheted the sample in orange and pink (makes it harder to guess what it is!), so you should feel free to pick your own fun colors!

Maybe this girl will be able to help you…

Is the animal Christmas-themed? Nope. It’s not holiday-related in any way, so is suitable for those who do not observe a particular religious holiday. It’s not even winter-themed… great for those in the Southern-hemisphere!

What is it? Hah! You can’t get me to spill the beans!

What is the difficulty level of the pattern? You will need to be able to single crochet, increase and decrease. This animal is larger than the average FreshStitches pattern, but it is an ‘easy’-level pattern.

Will there be progress photos? Yes! Like any FreshStitches pattern, there will be photos of each step. Assembly won’t happen until clue 4, so clues 1-3 will show photos of each completed piece.

Is this a ‘normal’ CAL, too? Like, is there a prize?

Yes! Aside from the excitement of being a mystery CAL, it’ll work just like a regular FreshStitches CAL… meaning that if you submit your finished photo, you’ll be entered to win a prize!

This month, the fabulous prize is a 10-pack of Suncatchers Eyes!

I use Suncatchers Eyes in all of my amigurumi… and I love them! One very lucky duck will get 10 pairs, in their choice of colors!

To enter your photo, post a pic of your finished animal to FreshStitches Ravelry Page or Facebook Page by December 16th.

As if you really needed another reason to join in on the fun!

Are you joining in?

You’re only allowed to join in if you’re ready to have oodles of fun and make lots of silly guesses! (okay… I’m joking… you can crochet along even if you don’t want to make lots of guesses!)

Step one is to grab the pattern!

Then, either comment or come over to the Ravelry Group to start chatting!

It’s going to be a blast!

So excited! This is my first time participating in something like this and I can’t wait! Also can’t wait to start guessing what the item could be! I’ll definitely be posting many pictures to your facebook page to try and guess what’s happening with everyone else :)

I have picked my yarns and am ready to go!

I have never gotten into amigurumi for one main reason: the last thing that I need is a bunch of stuffed animals cluttering up my tiny living space (Even if they are adorable). So I’ve stayed away this long.

However, I really could not resist a good mystery, so I think I’ll make an exception this one time.

Got the pattern last night and I’m excited for the first clue! Thinking about maybe pink and white for my colors.
