About FreshStitches

image

The idea for FreshStitches began in 2008 when crochet designer, Stacey Trock, noticed a distinct lack of patterns for big and cuddly stuffed animals. A handful of adorable designs later- FreshStitches was born! Since then, FreshStitches patterns have become legendary for their cuteness, detailed instructions and step-by-step photos. Using the abundance of help and information in the patterns, numerous crocheters have crocheted a FreshStitches animal as their first crochet project! ...more

My awesome TNNA trip, part 1

Happy Monday, everyone! I just got back from TNNA (the yarn-industry trade show where yarn and new patterns are ready to be adored!) and I had an awesome time! I have so many photos that I’m splitting them up into two posts… so without further ado, here are the pix!

What I brought

My patterns have recently started being distributed by Deep South Fibers (which means that they can be found in yarn stores!), and I scored a little display area in the Deep South booth at the show. I also had a book signing for Cuddly Crochet at the Martingale booth (fortunately, they brought the books!), but I brought along a sample from the book.

So, I packed up my cuties (fortunately, they fit in a carry-on bag), and we headed out.

What I wore

Obviously, there is a little bit of pressure to wear something awesomely crocheted/knitted at TNNA… since you’re surrounded by tons of awesome yarn and designers. So, I thought a lot about this one. If you read my last post, then you’ll know that I ultimately decided that a stuffed animal NEEDED to be part of the ensemble. So, I finally decided on wearing: my Edison shawl, my knitted skirt and one of my crocheted monkeys.

They ended up all being awesome choices… I got lots of compliments! And, excitingly, lots of people recognized me because of the monkey!

My animals at the booth

The Deep South folks had already put together a gorgeous booth, and my animals had their own spot!

I’m so excited to distributed by Deep South! They’re the ones who distribute amazing designer-rockstars like Tot Toppers, Cocoknits, Wolly Wormhead and Ysolda! Oh, yeah… my animals had a prime viewing spot for Ysolda’s awesome booth throughout the entire show! (and, as an aside, I got to see a preview copy of Ysolda’s new book, Little Red in the City, and it’s amazing and totally rocks… the patterns are fantastic, the book is about an inch thick, and the photography and artistry are to die for…)

My book signing

My book signing went super awesome!!! The table was set up beautifully by the Martingale folks…

And I signed and handed out all of the copies that Martingale brought along! That’s a success!

The awesome people!

And, finally… I got to hang out with so many amazing people! I had lunch with Daniel from Super Fun Knits, who designs amazing toys and baby blankets. I totally forgot to take a photo, but we ate at the North Market, and I got a photo of that :)

I also chatted with the Crochet Dude… who is not only a super-famous crocheter, but also really nice! (actually, I find that’s almost true of every designer that I meet… no matter how famous they are, they’re always nice. Aren’t designers awesome?)

Also, (no photo, here) the Stitch Diva tweeted about my monkey! Squee!

I also spent some time hanging out with The Sexy Knitter (real name: Sarah), who designed, knitted and was wearing the MOST AMAZING jumpsuit I’ve ever seen:

For dinner, I hung out with Sarah and Teva Durham at a yummy Mexican restaurant… I love hanging out and talking yarn!

Last, but not least, my day at TNNA ended with a late-night chat with Stephanie from Space Cadet… we’d been following each other on twitter and finally got the chance to meet in person! (sorry, no photos!)

That’s not all!!! I have lots of photos of all of the adorable stuffed animals that I spotted at TNNA (and some more exciting news!), so come back tomorrow!
