The idea for FreshStitches began in 2008 when crochet designer, Stacey Trock, noticed a distinct lack of patterns for big and cuddly stuffed animals. A handful of adorable designs later- FreshStitches was born! Since then, FreshStitches patterns have become legendary for their cuteness, detailed instructions and step-by-step photos. Store Spotlight: Kraemer Yarns

  • store: Kraemer Yarns
  • address: 240 South Main Street Nazareth, PA 18064
  • website: www.kraemeryarns.com
  • date of visit: July, 2012

Kraemer Textiles is located in Nazareth, PA and spins thousands of pounds of yarn a week for various textiles markets. Their factory has been spinning since 1907, and the company started producing yarns for hand-knitters in 2005.

When I spotted Nazareth, PA just a few miles off our course on the way to Lancaster County, I knew we had to make a detour!

Kraemer Yarns are all made in America and the company was featured in Tanis Gray’s Knit Local. The company offers a wide range of yarns, including a wide variety of undyed skeins (which I find particularly fun!

The shop looks like any other LYS, except that there’s only one brand of yarn in stock! It was really lovely to see the whole Kraemer line in person, since a particular LYS only carries a select few of their yarns. There was lots to choose from, but I gravitated towards something you can only get at the Kraemer shop… Kraemer mill ends!

Mill ends are lengths of yarn leftover from the milling process that aren’t big enough for a skein… so they’re rounded up and sold for a steal! I got this bag for only $3! They’re all undyed lengths of various yarns… I’m excited to play around with them!

    Hi Stacey,

I am wondering if you have found yourself a knitting home in MN or are you not there yet. I was going to go to your going away party at Knit NH but I felt uncomfortable going there because I never go to Tues. night at Knit NH, but I was thinking of you and knowing you would be fine wherever you go. I learned a big lesson on that Ipad cover I am making – my 24 stitches was 3” and the pattern called for 4”, so its going to be something else, like a Kindle cover or whatever else I can think up. So, the lesson is always do the gauge swatch. Here’s a question – if I just knit the whole thing in the round will it look likes its supposed to on the outside – for some reason you had me pearl a few rows and then knit the entire rest – just wondering why you suggested that. The pattern I am using is on Ravelry Ipad cover and it looks like a snowflake pattern – Terry (on Ravelry I am TallTerry). Make sure you get yourself some Underarmour for the winter.

      Hi Terry-
I’m living in Ithaca, NY for a year, so it’ll be a little bit before we’re in MN.
The reason why I had you knit & purl the first few rounds of the kindle cover was because you were working in rows, and that’s how you get the stockinette stitch when working in rows. Now that you’re working in the round, you should just knit.
I updated the ladies at Knit New Haven on your progress, so I’m sure they can help you if you need any more help!
