Nowadays, most of the patterns that I use for knitting and crocheting are pdfs that I purchase online (as are most of FreshStitches patterns). The coolest thing about pdfs is that you can not only store them on your laptop (which is really convenient for working on the road), but you can also transfer them to your reader (in my case, a Kindle). I’m going to show you how to put a pdf that is stored on your computer (I’m assuming that you’ve already purchased/downloaded the pattern) onto your Kindle… so you can crochet/knit on the go!
You’ll need your computer (with the pattern on it), your Kindle and the download cord that came with your Kindle.

First, unplug the power-plug from your cord:

Next, plug the USB end of the cord (the bigger one) into your computer:

Then, plug the other end (the tiny one) into your Kindle. It should plug in on the bottom, to the left of the ‘on’ switch:

Your kindle will come up with this screen:

And your computer will come up with:

Click on ‘open to view files’.
Now, click on the ‘documents’ folder:

To transfer the file, simply drag your file (your pdf pattern) from it’s location on the computer to this folder!

Hooray! Now you can read your pattern on your kindle! (I like to read mine on the sofa…)

What?! I don’t have to email myself the patterns? Too cool! Thanks for the tute!
It’s true :)
Very handy, especially in the case where you don’t have an internet connection!
A neat trick. Thanks for that! : )
Wow! Thanks for the information, Stacey. I had been wondering how to do this and it is so simple. xoxo
