About FreshStitches

The idea for FreshStitches began in 2008 when crochet designer, Stacey Trock, noticed a distinct lack of patterns for big and cuddly stuffed animals. A handful of adorable designs later- FreshStitches was born! Since then, FreshStitches patterns have become legendary for their cuteness, detailed instructions and step-by-step photos. Using the abundance of help and information in the patterns, numerous crocheters have crocheted a FreshStitches animal as their first crochet project! ...more

FO Friday: Kyuu and a new Ravelry group!

I have two exciting FOs to announce today… a knitted one and a technological one!

My new Ravelry group!

What’s a technological FO you ask? Well… it’s a virtual something that I’ve been working on for a while that’s finally fit for public consumption!

FreshStitches finally has a Ravelry group! I’m so excited!

I was hesitant to start a Ravelry group until I was sure I had the time to properly maintain the group (with exciting discussions!), and now that I know that Tim and I will be living in the US for the next few years, I do!

So, if you like crocheting amigurumi, come join in!

Kyuu

Okay, onto my knitted FO… which, I suppose, is the real goal of the blog post! I finished my Kyuu:

Do I love it?

Hmm… mutter… stammer… I’m not sure I do. And it’s totally my fault.

You see, Kyuu was supposed to be knit with 3 strands of laceweight yarn at 6 sts/inch. I had enough of a dk weight yarn in my stash (ball band: 6 sts/inch) to make the sweater. So… I went for it. I mean, using up your stash beats buying over 3200 yards of new yarn, right?

I actually even did a swatch for this one… and I could tell that my 6 sts/inch swatch was an eensy bit stiff. But, I loved the design and I just couldn’t resist. So, I knit it. And it’s stiff. Can you see how it stands up quite stiffly from my body?

Alas, this didn’t turn out to be a ‘perfect project’, but when I wear it, people say it’s cute… which is good news! I think it’ll end up being a nice ‘cool summer evening’ top, it just wasn’t as delicate as I was hoping for.

Lesson: you need to not only swatch, but pay attention to what your swatch reveals! Even if you don’t like what it’s telling you!

Giggle. Has that ever happened to you?

Have a great weekend!

Thanks for stopping by and reading! If you want to see more great finished items… make sure to visit Tami’s Amis blog, the organizer of this great FO Friday theme!

I hope you have an awesome and craft-filled weekend!

    Love your Kyuu!

I joined your Ravelry group :)

  2. Vanessa says:

That hasn’t happened to me…yet! Do you think it’ll soften up after a few washings/wearings?

    • Stacey says:

I think it’s not really a ‘softness’ thing, but more of a ‘denseness’ thing… you’re right though, that the cotton may stretch: resulting in a less dense (and more drapey) fabric. We can hope!

That top is so unbelievably pretty! I love, love, love it. It looks fantastic on you too, double win!

  4. Tracy says:

You’re so right about reading your swatch Stacey, but you know what we’re all like, we get excited, just too excited not to go ahead. Your top is lovely, and hopefully should soften a little with wash and wear :)

  5. Tanya says:

LOVE the cardi! haven’t seen that pattern before, but it’s super cute!

I think it looks lovely! maybe some repetitive blocking/washing will make it a little less stiff? good luck with your new ravelry group, that’s exciting!!
