Frequently Asked Amigurumi Questions
Basic Stuff
- What does amigurumi mean?
Amigurumi is basically Japanese for 'knitted doll', usually worked in the round, without turning. One feature typical of amigurumi is cute animals with big heads! All of our animals are crocheted in the round, and we try to add as few extras as possible: so, with the exception of eyes and noses, everything is crocheted!
Typically, amigurumi are tiny little animals, but we don't think they have to be! Most of our amigurumi are about 8" tall- making them awesome stuffed animals! - How can we contact you? And should we feel bad about sending an email?
To contact me (Stacey), email: stacey (ATT) freshstitches (DOTT) com. And, NO, you shouldn't hestitate to email! If a pattern seems tricky, or if you want to make a request, just let me know!
Our website also has lots of resources for helping you crochet amigurumi. Click HERE to check out our resources section: including videos of basic crochet stitches and amigurumi assembly techniques. About our Patterns
- Where can I find free amigurumi patterns?
We're always trying to add another free pattern or two... to see our free patterns, click here. - Is there any way to tell how difficult a pattern is?
Yup! On each pattern page, we list the difficulty level, in accordance with the crochet standards set by the Craft Yarn Council of America. These levels, however, are only estimates. If you have specific questions about difficulty (i.e. which stitches are required), send us an email! - Can I sell amigurumi made from your patterns?
Not without asking us first. Our patterns are protected by copyright, which means that they are for personal use only. Please contact Stacey for information about resale. - How big are completed FreshStithces amigurumi animals?
Now that's a good question. The animals come in different sizes, but are mostly in the 6-8 inch tall range. If you click on the picture of the animal, a complete description will come up, including the finished size. If you would like to make a smaller animal, we recommend using a dk (or sport) weight yarn, and a smaller crochet hook. Read this article to see how to make thread animals using our patterns! If you really want a size that isn't listed, email me, and I may be able to post the same animal in a new-and-improved size!
The Website
- How do I get my FreshStitches pattern?
You purchase the patterns from our website using Paypal's secure checkout. Patterns are emailed immediately after purchase, to your paypal email address. - Help, I didn't get my pattern!
Our patterns are delivered automatically via a fancy computer system, and there's a possibility that something could have gone wrong. But, before getting too flustered, do a couple of things. First, check that your PayPal email address. That's the one that your pattern will be sent to (unless you specify otherwise), even though sometimes, it hasn't been updated to your most used address. Second, check your 'junk' or 'spam' folder. Sometimes emails get send there by very tough spam filters. Third, keep in mind that if you pay by e-check, the patterns won't be sent until after the e-check clears, which can take up to a week. If you've done those things, and still can't find your pattern, send us an email. - What are the terms and conditions?
For detailed information about our policies, please read our terms and conditions.
Other Questions
- What yarn should I use for amigurumi?
We always recommend that you visit your LYS (local yarn store) to check out some great yarn! Amigurumi are small, and don't use a lot of yarn, so it's a great chance to experiment with an awesome fiber!
For those of you who are far away from a yarn store, we recommend www.knitting-warehouse.com. They carry a wide selection of yarn, with reasonable shipping prices. For recommended worsted weight yarns, check out: Bernat Soy yarn, Lion Brand Lion Wool Yarn, Paton's Classic Merino Wool Yarn and Red Heart Super Saver. Read our article Substituting Yarn in Patterns for tips on using non-worsted weight yarns.- Can I purchase a completed animal?
Yup, you sure can! We sell completed animals on our etsy site! We only make one sample per pattern, so get them while you can! Please email if you are interested in an animal not shown, as we do custom orders, depending on our availability.- Do you do custom orders?
Sure do! If you have an idea for a wacky animal, building or anything else that you would like to see, email us. Prices and time for completion vary depending on time of year and difficulty of the design. - Can I purchase a completed animal?
