Frequently Asked Questions
answering all of your amigurumi questions
Basic Stuff
| Amigurumi is basically Japanese for 'knitted doll', usually worked in the round, without turning. One feature typical of amigurumi is cute animals with big heads! All of our animals are crocheted in the round, and we try to add as few extras as possible: so, with the exception of eyes and noses, everything is crocheted! We take total liberty with the animal part, and we do a couple designs that aren't traditional! We have crocheted vehicle patterns, as well as some buildings and other toys! Check them out here! |
| How can we contact you? And should we feel bad about sending an email? Our website also has lots of resources for helping you crochet amigurumi. Click HERE You can watch videos of basic crochet stitches and amigurumi assembly techniques. About our Patterns
| Are there free patterns? Of course! We're always trying to add another free pattern or two... to see our free patterns, click here. |
| Is there any way to tell how difficult a pattern is? |
|
| Not without asking us first. Our patterns are protected by copyright, which means that they are for personal use only. Please contact Stacey for information about acquiring a license for resale. |
| Now that's a good question. The animals come in different sizes, but are mostly in the 6-8 inch tall range. If you click on the picture of the animal, a complete description will come up, including the finished size. If you would like to make a smaller animal, we recommend using a dk (or sport) weight yarn, and a smaller crochet hook. Read this article to see how to make thread animals using our patterns! If you really want a size that isn't listed, email me, and I may be able to post the same animal in a new-and-improved size! |

Other Questions
| We always recommend that you visit your LYS (local yarn store) to check out some great yarn! Amigurumi are small, and don't use a lot of yarn, so it's a great chance to experiment with awesome fiber! For those of you who are far away from a yarn store, we recommend www.knitting-warehouse.com. They carry a wide selection of yarn, with reasonable shipping prices. For recommended worsted weight yarns, check out: Bernat Soy yarn, Lion Brand Lion Wool Yarn, Paton's Classic Merino Wool Yarn and Red Heart Super Saver. Read our article Substituting Yarn in Patterns for tips on using non-worsted weight yarns. |
| Yup, you sure can! If you live in the D.C. area, check out our animals at Pyramid Atlantic Arts, in Downtown Silver Spring (across from the Discovery Channel building). If you would like to purchase a stuffed animal (and don't live in Maryland), email for a quote. |
