Do you know what I’m craving in my life? New crafts!
You see, I’m pretty accomplished at crocheting and knitting, and I’ve also dabbled in beading, baking and sewing. But I want to learn more!
So I’m starting Craft School Saturday!
What is Craft School Saturday?
Every Saturday, I’m setting aside a few hours to learn something new. It can sometimes be hard to find the time to do something just for myself… but gosh darn, I’m doing it!
The craft can be anything that strikes my fancy! I might get a new book, take an online class or watch some tutorials online. If I’m learning something new, it counts!
And every Saturday, I’ll blog about what I got up to the previous week. I’ll share my resources and tips for what I’ve learned… in case you want to try it, too!
Will you join me?
Are you looking for an excuse to be crafty? Then join me! Set aside a few hours of your Saturday to get crafting! And if you blog about it, be sure to leave a link in the comments section!
Some crafty targets…
There’s no shortage of projects I want to get into… here are a few ideas of things I’d love to try!
- Sew a dress made from old t-shirts, inspired by Christina Ffrench’s project in Craft Activism
- Bead Crochet, following the fab tutorials in Bead Crochet Jewelry
- Improve my photography skills with Craftsy’s Product Photography Course
- Sew a stuffed animal, maybe learning from a pro like Abby Glassenberg
- Learn Artisan Cheese Making
- Woodworking! I haven’t found my resource, but I have a really big cedar log on my porch that’s ready when I do!
These are just a few… no doubt I’ll get more ideas as I get rolling!

Stacey, You’ve come up with a great idea! There are lots of things I want to try and would give me an incentive to begin if others are too! Weaving is first on my list! Thanks for the motivation. :D
@Nancy- ooh, weaving! Love it! Can’t wait to see what you start working on :)
Yes! I need to try again with my resin casting. And I’d like to dust off my sewing machine and maybe make a few place mats or something.
@Vanessa- ooh, can’t wait to see!
I feel like I’ve started craft school already! I’m always looking for new things to learn or improve my skills in – this week it’s been sewing! So far I’ve made a patchwork tote and pretty flowers. Can’t wait to see what you get into next!
I think this is a funtastic idea! I will definitely be following your posts/progress. When I get situated in San Antonio in November, I may join you on your quest. :-D
Also, I am sorry you had such an adventure moving to Ithaca but I think it is wonderful that you had such a laid back attitude about everything. You ROCK!
Speaking of craft school/classes, you had a pattern reading class on craftsy that I can’t seem to find anymore. Is it out there somewhere still?
Kate
Hey Kate!
It’s a workshop, not a class, so maybe that’s why you couldn’t find it :)
It’s here: Crochet Cowl Sampler
I want to try needle felting and bought the needles & roving on Sat at the Rocky Mtn Sewing Expo but I have to get the foam to stab it into before I can start…. I don’t have a book, just going to wing it for now. Aiming for Tanglewood Thicket type of small creations…
I bought beads at the same show and need to figure out how to string those too!!! Too many projects so little time…
Definetely sounds great! I’m in
Cheers
