About FreshStitches

The idea for FreshStitches began in 2008 when crochet designer, Stacey Trock, noticed a distinct lack of patterns for big and cuddly stuffed animals. A handful of adorable designs later- FreshStitches was born! Since then, FreshStitches patterns have become legendary for their cuteness, detailed instructions and step-by-step photos. Using the abundance of help and information in the patterns, numerous crocheters have crocheted a FreshStitches animal as their first crochet project! ...more

Thinking of designing patterns? You’ll want to hear this!

A visit to CraftyPod

I was absolutely thrilled when Sister Diane of CraftyPod invited me to be a guest on her podcast to chat about earning a living from the pattern design business. You have to sell quite a few $5 patterns, but with hard work, earning a real wage is possible!

You’ll want to head on over and listen to the podcast ASAP! The episode is available as a free download for only 30 days, so hurry up and grab it while you can!

It actually doesn’t matter if you’re interested in selling crochet patterns, knitting patterns or sewing patterns… the business side is pretty similar, so have a listen!

Why I love my work

So, I just told you that earning a living isn’t easy work… so why do I completely adore what I do? Let me show you one reason:

This is Brenda, and she had a Maryland-themed wedding… and Tipper the Tiny Crab got to join in!

Can you believe it? Is there anything better than seeing your design be part of one of the most special days of someone’s life? Uh, I think not!

I totally adore what I do every day… check out CraftyPod’s podcast and see if it’s a job you’d love, too!

Isn’t that just great. I bought my wedding dress from Etsy especially for that reason. I was wearing something that no one else has ánd I was supporting a fabulous young designer to boot. I applaud everyone who has the guts and nerves to get into the craft/design business and quits their day/night job and I have to admit… oh have I been dreaming about it! I’ve only just opened my Etsy shop and still working on improving it, but it would be so much fun to run my Etsy shop alongside my freelance editing job. Freedom and all that (hopefully). Anyway, it’s great that you’re doing this!!

Thank you so much, Esther! I’m so delighted to hear that you bought your wedding dress from Etsy… it’s so wonderful to be supporting indie designers when you can! I buy any gift I can think of from Etsy- even a small purchase really does help make someone’s dream a sustainable reality.

  2. Hi Stacey! Just listened to the podcast! Thanks so much for all the wonderful tips and ideas. I’m also a designing woman. ;) Working on my first self-published knitting book right now, so this was really inspirational.

I really enjoyed the podcast. I’m starting to design my own knit and crochet patterns and am looking at ways to monetize them. I’m eating up anything business-wise related to that, and your interview was really informative. Thanks!
