One of the perks of being in the yarn business is that every once in a while, I get the chance to play around with a yarn before it’s hit the stores! (squee!)
Heard of Buffalo Wool?
The Buffalo Wool Company is a yarn company that specializes in yarns (and other products, actually) made from Buffalo wool (yes, you read that right!). Wool from buffalo is incredibly warm, and lighter than sheep’s wool… so traditionally, it’s been sold as either fingering or lace weight.
I’m partial to worsted-weight yarns, so I was delighted to find out that Buffalo Wool Co. has developed a buffalo/merino blend! Still warm and soft, but much more affordable than a 100% buffalo yarn would be. It’s called Buffalo Skies, pictured above, and is a joy to work with!
Boot Liners
Where on your body do you need extra warmth in the winter? Your feet!
When I found a Crochet Boot Liner Pattern (from A Crafty House), I knew it was the right project for this yarn. They’ll be super-warm and are more fun to crochet than another hat!
I’ve finished the ribbing of one liner:
I’ve modified the pattern slightly, changing colors every 2 rows to have a two-color cuff. I love how they’re turning out!

I’ll be chatting about the Buffalo Wool Company and interviewing Tanis Gray, author of Knit Local on this afternoon’s podcast. So, if you like American-made fibers, tune in!
That’s what I’ve been up to this week… how about you? I hope you have an awesome Wednesday, and get some great knitting/crocheting done this week!
If you want to check out more Work-In-Progress posts, please check out Tami’s Ami’s Blog, who’s been organizing a great WIP Wednesday blog theme! And, don’t forget to come back for FO (Finished Object) Friday!

I’ve heard amazing things about buffalo fiber, but I’ve never had a chance to try it myself. I’ll certainly be on the look out for that blend though, it looks divine!
Love the sound of that buffalo/merino blend. I’m definitely going to keep my eyes peeled for that yarn!
Those look great! I have a small amount of Buffalo yarn, as I like trying new fibers….the colors are usually natural too..I love that blue…
Love those colors.
Buffalo sounds like a very luxurious yarn I would love to try.
