I admit it: at midnight this morning, I went shopping for some Black Friday sales. I prefer to shop handmade and at small businesses (more on that, tomorrow!), but I don’t know anyone who handcrafts camera memory cards… so I hit the big retailers.
I know a lot of folks who can’t stand the crowds, but I actually like the hustle and bustle! Why? Because it means that it’s officially time to start planning for the December holidays! Yay!
A few years ago, Black Friday was reserved for deep discounts on electronics at large retailers. But the tradition has spread across the entire weekend, and now often includes some fiber-goodness!
Sale on classes at Craftsy
Have you been thinking of taking one of my crochet classes on Craftsy? Now’s the time!
It’s not just a sale on my classes… but on them all! I’m sure you’ll find one you like! (I have my eye on the Cheese Making Course…)
50% books at Martingale!
Remember how I chatted about designing Crocheted Softies? Lots of people told me they were putting it on their Christmas list… well, now’s the time to grab it!
All books at Martingale are 50% off! You can also grab a steep discount on my first book, Cuddly Crochet.
One more trip for me…
I’m headed out to JoAnn Fabrics after I write this post. As a small business that supports handmade, it’s not a decision I take lightly.
Here’s why I’m going: I’m sewing a leopard puppet designed by Abby Glassenberg for my little cousin and I need leopard-print fleece.
I always go through the following thought process: can I find a handmade source for my supplies? (in this case, there’s no handmade fleece). Then I ask myself, “can I find a local small business that sells the supplies that I need?” And while I shop at my LYS for yarn, the only local fabric store is dedicated to quilting and doesn’t sell the fleece I need.
So… it’s with a bit of thought that I go to a big chain retailer. And… JoAnn has fleece on sale! Score! Buying the leopard print will allow me to create a handmade gift for my little cousin, and that’s a big win!
Any black Friday shopping for you?
I hope you treat yourself to a relaxing day (whether shopping or not) and have some fabulous Thanksgiving leftovers!
