About FreshStitches

The idea for FreshStitches began in 2008 when crochet designer, Stacey Trock, noticed a distinct lack of patterns for big and cuddly stuffed animals. A handful of adorable designs later- FreshStitches was born! Since then, FreshStitches patterns have become legendary for their cuteness, detailed instructions and step-by-step photos. Using the abundance of help and information in the patterns, numerous crocheters have crocheted a FreshStitches animal as their first crochet project! ...more

A Weekend around Connecticut

As you may (or may not) know, Tim and I moved to New Haven, CT two years ago for Tim’s 2-year contract. Which means… we’re about to move on! (Our next stop: Ithaca, NY for a year). We’re moving at the end of the month, and so we’re trying to squeeze in as many ‘Connecticut’ things as possible!

My dad and stepmom were visiting this weekend, so it seemed like a great chance to be tourists in the state… you know, do all those things we thought would be nice to see, but never got around to? Well, we pretty much saw them all! Here’s some of what we got up to:

Covered Bridge in West Cornwall

Beautiful scenery in Northwest Connecticut

Historical sites around New Haven

Town squares in Litchfield, Kent, Guilford and Branford

Thimble Islands in the Long Island Sound

Mark Twain’s House in Hartford

It was a fabulous weekend, and I was delighted to cross a few great things off of my ‘to-see’ list before we depart!

Sound like a fun weekend! I went to see the Thimble Islands a couple of years ago. Good luck on your upcomming move.

Connecticut is a beautiful place to live, so much going on there. But I have a feeling that you are going to LOVE New York as well. Everyone I know who lives in that area loves it. I wish you luck on the move, it won’t be easy, but it will be exciting!

We enjoy the pottery place outside of the covered bridge. We’ve gotten all of our lamps from them….

Ithaca is beautiful, very different…the town is great and very college-y…it’s also very hilly!

Did you go into the Twain house? It’s pretty cool..I did it with my Mom several years ago…Now I need to do the Harriet Beecher Stowe house…

Oooh! I’m so excited you’re coming to Ithaca!! We have TWO LYS here. Although they both keep (in my opinion) rather odd hours. There are a couple of knitting/crocheting clubs too! It’s a nice little place to live for a crafter!!
