In my recent trip to San Francisco, I just had to make the drive out to A Verb for Keeping Warm… retail shop for the indie dyeing company by the same name.
I was a little nervous venturing off into a stray city to visit, but the shop was easy to get to (just a couple of turns off the main road) with easy street parking. But as soon as I walked into the store, I knew it was worth the trip!
The shop isn’t just a retail front for the fabulous dye company, but it’s also a beautiful LYS (stocking many of the fine yarn brands that you’re familiar with) and fabric store! They also stock a selection of fiber for spinning… get it? All of the verbs (knitting, crocheting, sewing, crocheting) for keeping warm!
Although all of the yarns were fabulous, I was particularly drawn to this one… dyed from local mushrooms!
Can you imagine the excitement when I discovered that Adrienne, the mushroom forager and dyer, was there? And wanted to chat with me about mushrooms? Squee! We walked into the dye garden that’s in the back of the shop…
And Adrienne showed me the type of mushroom used to dye the particular yarn I had my eye on:
So exciting! I came home with a couple skeins, for sure!
In addition to being a fabulous yarn shop that’s absolutely beautiful and stocked with great yarn… the staff were super-friendly and gave me lots of tips about town (since I was traveling). Definitely a super-awesome place to be!
So if you’re in the Bay Area, stop by for a visit!

What a beautiful shop!
I enjoyed the podcast about your California trip. That’s my kind of traveling. This shop sounds fabulous. Dying yarn with mushrooms! How awesome is that?!
