Today, I’m going to give you a peek into my studio! I showed some photos back in June, when we moved to New Haven. However, I’ve failed to show you the finished product!
So, let the tour begin!
my view

My studio is in what should be either the living room or dining room of our apartment, and I chose it because it has a fabulous view. It sits facing the street, has 4 windows, and is sunny all day long. It’s so well lit that I don’t have a light in my studio at all! (Why do we feel like we need to work at night, anyway? If it’s dark outside, then I don’t need to be working! At least, that’s the policy I started when I moved here so that I don’t work too much!)

My yoga mat lives right below the windows, so I can practice in the sunniest spot in the house! I also feel like it makes my studio very relaxing… nothing stressful allowed in here! (and, in case you’re wondering, no… I don’t usually do yoga in jeans and fingerless mitts… I just took a ‘sample yoga pose’ in my regular clothes!)
my desk

My desk is actually a dining room table from Ikea, and I sit on an ottoman, because I like to sit cross-legged while I work (and regular chairs just aren’t wide enough!).

A close-up shot reveals that I’m a drink-aholic… I always keep a liter bottle of water (plus a water glass) on my desk, plus a tea or coffee or something else that I’m drinking. There’s nothing wrong with that, is there?
my books

I don’t own a lot of books. The photo above is of one shelf of my bookshelf. I have 2 and a half shelves of books… which totals about 30 books. A couple of the books are ones that I have had since my teenage years (Vanna White crochets afghans!) and my ‘Big Book of Knitting’ is really the only knitting reference book I have.
Usually, when I reveal this fact, people feel sorry for me. Please don’t. I don’t need a lot of books. I actually do purchase books, I just donate them when I am finished so that other people can enjoy them. I frequent the library. I borrow books from friends. I’m very happy with my books… I just don’t need to own a lot of them!
my yarn

My ‘yarn corner’ is an 8-cell Expedit (from Ikea). Three cells are ‘work yarns’ (yarns that I use for designing my animals), one cell has a box in it (I actually don’t know what’s in the box… now, that’s sad. There are only 8 cells, I really should know!), one cell is blank, one cell is full of scraps/leftover skeins of yarn, and two cells are ‘personal yarns’ (yarns that I use for me!).
On top of the Expedit, I keep the animals that I’ve just finished. As you can see, monkey is sitting on an adorable little chair, a photo prop that I just bought from cottage farm (isn’t it cute?). You’ll also see a quilted wall hanging that I made several years ago when I had my wisdom teeth removed (well… not during the procedure, but while I was recovering).
That’s it! That’s a tour of my studio… a beautiful well-organized, bright space where I do all of my designing. So, next time I write a blog post or reply to an email from you- you know it’s done from my ottoman!

Gorgeous & spacious & bright!! LOVE your studio!!
thank you!
