About FreshStitches

The idea for FreshStitches began in 2008 when crochet designer, Stacey Trock, noticed a distinct lack of patterns for big and cuddly stuffed animals. A handful of adorable designs later- FreshStitches was born! Since then, FreshStitches patterns have become legendary for their cuteness, detailed instructions and step-by-step photos. A Coffee and A Yarn: Newtown, NSW, Australia

  • store: A Coffee and a Yarn
  • address: 413 King Street, Newtown (Sydney), Australia 2042 NSW
  • website: www.acoffeeandayarn.com/
  • date of visit: January, 2011

I’m a sucker for a good coffee- and a complete sucker for yarn. So, you can imagine my delight when I heard about ‘A Coffee and a Yarn’- a yarn store that blends yummy yarn and a cafe into one!

A Coffee and a Yarn is located in Newtown, an awesome suburb of Sydney (and lucky for me, walking distance from where we stay for Christmas break!)

It’s a wonderful afternoon to walk around Newton… and when you do, you can check out all the cute shops, and then stop in and treat yourself to a yummy coffee and some yarn! I had a latte (my Australian drink of choice… since I’m actually an American who likes milky coffee), pictured at left. Isn’t the decoration pretty?

Since I visited in the Southern Hemisphere summer, the lightweight and plant yarns were center stage. Perfect time to start a lacy silk shawl or cute little linen tank top.

The store is beautifully organized to encourage sitting, chatting and knitting or crocheting. There are a number of tables in the center, surrounded with seats. And, each table has an adorable container of spare needles and yarn so you can get your swatch on if you left your project at home.

So, if you’re in they Sydney area, put this little shop on your stop!
