You know what I’m talking about. You look at a new design and instantly start salivating. Then, you glance at the byline and exclaim, ‘Oh, it’s by so-and-so… THAT’S why I love it!
Some designers have a knack for expressing their unique style and designing gift in every piece they publish… and these are my heroes. What more could you ask for than consistent awesomeness?
Here are my heroes:
Veera Valimaki
website: 100% Rain
Veera has a great eye for color and stripes… and her designs are so fabulously gorgeous (but surprisingly simple and relaxing knits), that I tend to find myself addicted.
What I’ve Knit: 3 Stripe Study Shawls, Different Lines, 2 Still Light Tunics
Next on my list: Color Affection
Heidi Kirrmaier
website: Heidi’s Ravelry Shop
I developed a long faves list of Heidi’s patterns before figuring out that they came from the same, genius designer. No surprise the knit-a-long for my LYS this month is her Vitamin D… everyone’s in love!
What I’ve Knit: Buttercup
Next on my list: Another Buttercup, then Raindance
Spilly Jane
website: SpillyJane at Blogspot
Spilly (Do you call her by her first name? I don’t know!) does amazing fair-isle designs that are modern and hilarious.

What I’ve Knit: none yet
Next on my list: Swedish Fish Socks, then gnome socks
Stephen West
website: WestKnits
I hate sounding like a groupie… but this dude really does design some awesome shawls! He’s got a touch for geometric designs with awesome colorblocking.
What I’ve Knit: 2 Pogona Shawls
Next on my list: Spectra, then Earth & Sky and Flagstone
And more!
Ah! I can’t stop listing the awesomeness! Here are a few more of my faves:
Wool Buddy, who designs AMAZING needle-felting animals… I’m dying to try her owl kit.
(website: woolbuddy.com)
Anna of MochiMochiLand designs of the most fabulous knitted animals and characters. I’m always in awe! (website: mochimochiland)
Shannen of Sweet n’ Cute Creations is the designer of some of the most adorable amigurumi I’ve seen! They really are sweet and cute! (website: Sweet n Cute Creations)
Kirstin Johnstone designs incredibly modern and clever pieces… I’m knitting her Kyuu right now! (website: Assemblage)
Who are your heroes?
I can’t wait to browse through the rest of today’s Knit and Crochet Blog Week post… I’m hoping to find even more faves!

Thanks for sharing. I’ve been introduced to some new designers to check out!
Love the little owl!
One of my consistently favorite designers is Kristin Omdahl. I just seem to love everything she designs! She’s even got a pineapple shawl! http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lacy-pineapple-blossom-shawl
@Annastasia She’s fab! And she’ll be doing an interview on my blog as part of her new blog tour- hooray!
I’m knitting Buttercup at the moment and I’ve nominated Veera too! But Stephen West is cool as well – so many heroes!!!
Thank you for introducing me to some amazing new designers and reminding me about some that I already knew about. There certainly is a lot of talent out there in the knit designer world.
They are all excellent! I love the striped shawl. It is gorgeous!
Great list! I keep seeing Vera Valimaki’s patterns everywhere — I am getting the bug!
Aaaah, those fish socks are so cool!
I’m a big fan of Spilly Jane! Love the socks, such a great color combination. I’m going to have to knit them too. :)
Thanks for sharing so many interesting designers! And the striped shawl is gorgeous!
Some designers really have their signature style. Both Veera and Heidi are among them.
You really picked some great ppl!
I also love Vera’s designs! And I’d love to knit one of Stephen’s shawls!
The shawl is beautiful. I love your blog’s clean design, too.
