Welcome to day 2 of Knitting and Crochet Blog Week! Today’s topic is creative photography!
I’ll fess up: I’m still working on being creative with my photos. I can’t wait to have a peek at everyone else’s posts!
My Current Level:
I adore my baby tripod, since it allows me to take photos of me wearing my knitwear:
They’re not the most creative shots, but they’re better (and at least a little more professional-looking) than the I’m-holding-my-camera-and-caught-only-half-of-my-body shot!
I’ve been practicing my ‘white background’ photos quite a bit (read my 5 easy photography tips), and I’m stretching my creative legs a bit:
Sometimes, I throw in a hand as a prop:
… but that’s about as creative as I get with the props!
My Inspiration
I’m working on getting more creative with my props and staging of photos… fortunately, there’s some amazing folks out there to get inspiration from! Eskimimi posted some fabulous examples in her topics post.
And, you can always count on Anna from MochiMochiLand to post amazing photos! She comes up with the most clever scenes (both for photos and stop-motion animation)… check out her post on The Infestation (of gnomes)!
Anna also runs contests that encourage her customers to take awesome photos… check out these weaving bunnies!
So, I know I have a little way to go, but I’m improving every year! Can’t wait to see all of your creative photo posts, today!

I love your pictures, the colours just pop in them….I don’t go much beyond the point camera and take photo!
I want to get one of those flex tripods (both for pictures of yarn creations and pictures when my husband, daughter and I go on hikes together). Those thing wrap around anything for an instant tripod! Plus, when it comes to your amigurumi, who needs extra props, they’re too cute already! :)
@Nicole- they’re really one of the best investments… not to expensive and come in so handy! Thanks for your compliments :)
Ooh, I’ll have to check out that tripod! I love my Joby Gorilla, but my macro lens is too heavy for it!
I really need to practice taking pictures on a white background. I love the first one of your the most :-)
These are great shots–so clear and bright!
Thank you for the tips, sometimes more is less ; love the hearts pic
I love your pictures! I think they are great! :)
I’m heading over to check out some of these other blog posts you mentioned. There is a FREE photo editor available for Windows, Mac and Linux users called The Gimp. In all honesty, it can do just about everything PhotoShop can do. You just have to learn how to do it. I posted a couple of tutorials for The Gimp this past week on my crochet blog: http://IllHookYouUp.blogspot.com
That’s awesome photography! Is the caterpillar going to have these flat round segments? I bet that would be a pretty awesome combination with the segments tied together – that way you have a stacked, sandwichesque caterpillar!
Tripods are great aren’t they. They transformed my project photography. I just wish I had a remote control now (I’m never satisfied!)
Love it! Nice colours too
I love your amigurumi shots! So bright and cheerful!
Your pictures are really great ! I love the hearts one !
I love your photography, actually. I guess it could be more “creative” but I think you let the work speak for itself :).
Great photos! All your little creatures look like such fun.
Your photos are always so clean and precise, I love the way you set them up!
I have always loved your photos. You have a knack for capturing the personalities of your creations. Your Grapevine is beautiful!
i think your photos are great! do you have a remote for your self timer or do you just push the button and run? i haven’t used it for awhile because i lost the foot to my favorite tripod but it’s a huge help to not have to keep hitting your mark for clear photos.
i still LOVE that ss sweater. i have to stop being so chicken to make some knitwear for myself.
@Meredith- I don’t have a remote… I just set the timer and run :) My camera has a 2 and 10 second timer, so I don’t need to run too fast!
I think the first two photos kind of show how much you love to knit and what you knit.
The third one is super fun!
The fourth of the amigurumis is cute. It’s like they’re looking up at you and saying, “Mama!”
The hand proppin’ goes very well w/the hearts.
The birds crack me up….and yeah I struggle with creative photos, I don’t have that creative eye….
J’aime beaucoup les couleurs et le pepsine de tes photos !
